Techno-science has played a big role in most human beings. In my case, ever since high school I have been told, through standardized tests, like the ACT, that I was not "good enough" or close to being successful in my academic life. I came to believe that. My last year of my high school career I was ready to apply for colleges, and as we all know, we are told that colleges look at your ACT scores, GPA, etc. During the process of applying, the only thing that I had in my mind was that I wouldn't get into a "good" college/university because of having the standardized tests determine on believing that I was not well prepared for college and that I would be rejected to many colleges/universities that I had applied to. I was not accepted to one of the private colleges I applied to, but did get accepted to six out seven schools. Obviously the whole idea of having the standardized tests on determining my ability to be success turned out to not be true.
Now that I look at it, in a techno-science perspective, I see that the tests were used as a instrument to influencing my success in life, making me think that I was not prepared for college or to even being success in my academic life. Relating to Lewontin, about his idea that naming a person something it makes an impact on the person's life on how they might live their life. This ties up to what I believe that it is true. Because I was told that I wouldn't be successful in life due to having low scores in standardized tests, it come to not believe in myself and view myself as what others said. Now, that I have proven myself that that is not always the case, I tend to believe in myself rather than having others or instruments determine my ability. Although, that is hard because we live in a world that goes with the techno-science perspectives. Once you get out the bad habit on believing what the instruments or others say about you, you will be seeing the new perspective of yourself. This is having dominance of your mind, believing in you and proving other factors wrong, that want to define who you really are.

What does it mean that our own CLA uses a regression equation of ACT / SAT scores and grades in 2 types of classes to admit us? NO essay and NO letters for the first cut?
