Another debate-ish post, I'm sorry. The argument between religion and science is a nonperishable one. But again, I believe everyone should be able to freely express their beliefs and be able to choose what to believe in without backlash and other people trying to force feed you their ways of thinking. When we don't understand someone else's religion, we try to explain why ours is better. When we couldn't explain why there was water falling from the sky, we hypothesized and performed experiments until we found a logical explanation, then we named it 'rain'. We have multiple creation stories, explanations, and theories that cause us to literally hate each other when we don't agree on one. Is it possible to explain our 'reality' (whatever that is) with the coexistence of science and the belief of a higher power? I mean, I've gotten along pretty well with this combination.

The Coexistence of Science and Religion
Why are we, as humans, so obsessed with needing to know everything? We are so controlling that nothing can exist without us giving it the power to. We don't like to think of things as beyond our control. We continuously come up with names for things and try to categorize them simply for our comfort and understanding. It really seems to make us squirm when we fail to explain something. And when or if we can't figure out how it's possible, we call it impossible. For example, do ghosts (or spirits) exist? For some people, watching Ghost Adventures is enough evidence to prove that the afterlife is alive and well beyond or between heaven and hell or where ever. But for most, it's not real because it's unexplainable and that makes it impossible (since you can't pour a ghost into a beaker or melt it with a bunsen burner). I will admit, I love to watch paranormal shows, and even though they seem to be fake, they are entertaining. I digress. Fake or not, I believe in the "spirit world" (and the show has not swayed my beliefs in any way). I do not label myself as religious, nor do I completely believe in science. I like to combine the two. I know, it's crazy right? To think that more than one thing can explain human existence.. My beliefs are an entangled mess of scientific research and the existence of a higher power that only I can truly decipher. It has come to be this way because I really do not care how we got here. I do not feel the need to have things printed in black and white to believe that it exists. I like to think that I am open to all of the possibilities. Descartes has a hypocritical way of explaining the mind and body split. He believes they are two distinct entities that cannot exist without the other. That would make them one, or at least dependent on each other. Therefore one cannot be without the other, so it's one thing...? I think they are two different things, coexisting, and the spirit can live on without the body (which is why spirits are believed to "walk" the earth.) Did I just explain a possible way for ghosts to exist? Hmm.. (but without a lab coat and a beaker I guess that still makes it impossible.)
