There's a pill that will make you not fat

Have you ever heard of Garnicia Cambogia? It's a fairly new and highly effective diet pill hat will help you lose 10 pounds in 3 hours.. Just kidding. But seriously, according to WebMD, Garnicia Cambogia limits your bodies ability to produce fat. It is made from a tropical fruit called the Malabar tamarind (probably from a far off island we've never heard of) and the rind of this fruit contains the active ingredient of hydroxycitric acid (HCA). This skyrockets your bodies ability to burn fat and decreases your appetite (because that sounds safe).  They also throw in some "facts" about serotonin and some unreferenced studies that "prove" these supplements work. The ingredients seem to be all natural, coming only from the rind of the fruit.

Active (main) Ingredients:

1. Hydroxycitric Acid:

This is the main ingredient that an authentic Garcinia Cambogia supplement should have. Also known as HCA, this ingredient plays a big role in improving the functioning of the nervous system.

How does it do this? Well once you are full after eating, the nervous system sends a message to the brain through an alert mechanism that you have achieved satiety.

Our bodies contain an enzyme known as Citrase Lyase. It is responsible for converting the excess carbohydrates in the body to fat. HCA inhibits the synthesis of this enzyme hence helping in weight control.

Make sure your supplements has at least 50% HCA.

2. Chromium:

Chromium is a key component in many weight loss diets. Its deficiency can lead to diabetes and weight gain.
The chromium in Garcinia Cambogia works hand in hand with HCA to stabilize the body’s blood sugar levels.

3. Calcium

A study published in a 2008 issue of the British Journal of Nutrition, shows that boosting calcium intake spurs weight loss in people whose diets are calcium deficient.
While you are taking GC make sure it have calcium in the ingredients list.

4. Potassium

Potassium aids in weight loss by converting food into energy, boosting metabolism and developing muscles.
Dieting postmenopausal women lose about half a pound of muscle per year if not taking potassium; those taking it would gain about one pound of muscle every three months. (Frassetto, L. American Journal of Physiology, 1996; 271:1,114-1,122)
Make sure your supplements has at least 1% Potassium but no more then 3%.

They emphasize the amount of HCA and Potassium because there are imitators out there that throw in a lot of extra things. The four ingredients above are the MAIN ingredients. Which probably means there are some extra things in these pills as well. Whats funny to me is that it claims to help you lose up to 15 pound in 2 months but if you eat well and move for 20-30 mins 3 days a week you can lose about 20-30 pounds in 2 months and it's real weight loss. The pounds won't come flooding back plus some if you miss a few days like they do with diet pills and fad diets.
Although i have never seen DTCA for these pills, I have seen it on Pinterest while I'm look at home workout ideas and healthy food ideas. After doing some research I decided to go to Target and Walgreens to find this miracle supplement and see what its all about. This must be a very well advertised pill (where, I'm not sure) because there were none left at Target and only one bottle at Walgreens. Even though I have never seen it blatantly advertised, this didn't really surprise me. Any time there is an alternative to getting up off your ass and getting some exercise, we seek it out and eat it up. All the fad diets and surgery options and diet pills are a huge market for us lazy Americans. People will spend ridiculous amounts of money for surgery and Weight Watchers, amongst other things. Oh and don't worry, if you cannot afford surgery, there are payment plan options.  We need fast results with very little effort, and thats why this diet pill was highly sought after when it was first introduced to all the people who don't wanna cook some fish and go to the gym.

  1. You raise a really interesting question at the end of the article. I dont think we have found a good cultural balance between encouraging people to have a healthier diet, and exercise more (which is beneficial for so many reasons), and accepting that some folks are predisposed to weigh more. All of this before we consider the impact of food deserts, inadequate funding for SNAP, and other socioeconomic factors. For some reason, whenever the topic of weight comes up, everyone retreats into their own corners. I think the debunking the pseudoscience of diet fads can begin to address this retrenchment, and so I say well done!!
